Mission Statement:

The purpose of Central Texas Pastel Society is twofold:

to promote pastel as a recognized medium through shows and exhibitions, and to organize workshops, programs and painting opportunities for its membership to assist each to reach their optimum potential as an artist...whether they chose to be hobbyists or professionals.

Enriching the community, CTPS is an annual sponsor of scholarships for underprivileged children at the Cultural Activities Center’s annual summer art camp in Temple.  The Society has donated art supplies and art books to local schools and community libraries.

History:

 Central Texas Pastel Society
History ~ Purpose ~ Goals
1997 ~ 2006

Central Texas Pastel Society was founded in September l997 with 18  Charter members.  Meetings are held third Saturday morning of each month at area locations to accommodate members in the Central Texas area.   Annual dues are $30 for individual memberships; $45 for family; and $25 for student and seniors.  CTPS is a member of the prestigious International Association of Pastel Societies. Click here for membership form.
Membership is open to anyone with an interest in promoting soft pastels as a fine-art medium either by actively working and studying the medium, or, by being a staunch supporter of pastel artwork.  Current members include all experience levels from professionals to students and represent a variety of style techniques from realism to abstract.
It is the mission of  CTPS to establish pastel as a recognized medium and to educate the public of its enduring beauty through the opportunity to view pastel artwork by sponsoring shows and exhibitions.  For its members, CTPS’ goal is to organize workshops, programs, painting sessions and informal critiques to assist each person to reach their optimum potential as an artist...whether they select to be hobbyists or professionals.
CTPS has created many member exhibitions in the Central Texas area, offered painting sessions which were open to area pastel artists,  and  sponsored scholarships to underprivileged children for the Cultural Activities Center’s summer art camp.
Workshops hosted by CTPS featured instructors such as nationally known artist Bob Rohm of Flower Mound, John Roush of Kansas and Elizabeth Sandia of Santa Fe, NM, Colleen Howe of Utah, along with Texas artists Janice Hamilton of Dallas, Steve Napper of Ingram and Jerry Hungsinger of Denison. The group also publishes a newsletter, "Pastel Expressions" which shares the accomplishments of members and keeps them advised of new pastel products, publications, and coming events.
The tempo continues in the Society’s ninth year as members plan the annual Membership Exhibition and Competition, workshops, programs, "Challenge Paintings"  in addition to monthly meetings.
